Parent Tips

Stay Involved

Parent involvement in the middle grades is just as important as it was in elementary school.  Studies show that kids whose parents stay involved during these years do better in school.  Here are some tips:

  • Go to school when you are invited- Attend all conferences that are held during the school year.

  • Meet your child’s teachers- Learn the names of all of the teachers and have them see that you want to be involved.

  • Join the Parent/Teacher/Student Association (PTSA) - This organization is instrumental for all of the school programs and student activities.

  • Learn who can help- If your child has a problem in one class, ask to talk to that teacher; if the problem is in several classes or involved a general adjustment to the school, contact the counselor.

  • Read the newsletter and the calendar-These will tell you important dates, when grades will be coming home and special activities.
